Marble Shower Floor Turning Yellow

It appears to me that the sealer is decomposing. This oxidation process is accelerated when the tile is saturated as in the flood in the above example. I was able to scratch the brown away with my thumbnail revealing the original beautiful marble. If the gel coating has worn down a bit the coating and cultured marble may become stained.

Iron deposits that are embedded in white marble tile especially carrara marble are typically the cause of this type of stain. I would strongly suggest having this done by a professional.

Another possibility is a process sometimes used for polishing marble floors known as crystallization. This is especially true of marble since it is much softer then granite.
